IT’S A BIRD! IT’S A PLANE! IT’S …..THE UNITED WAY! In our packet of materials the words “inner hero” fly off the page. How often in our lives do we get to be called heroes unless we work as policeman, fireman or soldiers? Contributing to the United Way is our way of releasing our inner hero and helping many who are in trouble, or could be in trouble, avoid their kryptonite.
Faster than a speeding bullet, the Red Cross and Salvation Army come to the aid of those with loses from fires and natural disasters. More powerful than a locomotive, the Richland/Wilkin Kinship program, Girl and Boy Scouts of America and the Richland and Wilkin County 4-H programs empower our youth to be strong, confident and self reliant individuals who see a brighter future for themselves. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, the many county youth recreation programs allow our children to be physically, as well as mentally strong. With x-ray vision, Wilkin County Outreach helps families to see they can heal and have love. Being organizations of “steel”, the SENDCAA program and PARTNERS enables people, who may otherwise be dependent, become independent.
Being a hero doesn’t necessarily mean you are the one faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive or leaping tall buildings in a single bound. You can be the hero that wears the Clark Kent Glasses and makes sure that the Supermen get what they need to make the great rescues. By continuing to give, or giving for the first time to the United Way, you can unleash your inner hero and get a glimpse of the “S” on your own chest.
